The first notes on acupuncture were found in the 4,700-year-old Huang Di Nei Jing (the Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine). It is said to be the oldest medical textbook in the world. It is said that Shen Nung, the father of Chinese medicine, has even earlier written theories on acupuncture. Shen Nung documented theories about blood circulation, pulse, and heart over 4,000 years before European medicine had any concept at all.
The question arises as to how does acupuncture work?
Scientists have no real answer to this. As you know, many of the body's functions are still a mystery. There are a few prevailing theories:

Moxibustion & Cupping

Another popular treatment method is moxibustion
the treatment of diseases is by the application of heat to the acupuncture points. Acupuncture and moxibustion apply related forms of treatment and are frequently used together. Moxibustion is used for diseases such as bronchial asthma, bronchitis, certain types of paralysis and arthritic disorders.
Cupping is another type of treatment.
This is a method of stimulating the acupuncture points by suction through a metal, wood or glass vessel in which a partial vacuum has been produced. This technique creates a blood jam at the site and stimulates it. Cupping is applicable for lower back pain, sprains and soft tissue injuries. It is also used to free the lung of fluid in chronic bronchitis .
